The corona pandemic poses numerous challenges for companies and authorities. To keep the workforce informed about current events, companies, offices and works councils have to find new ways. After all, employees still have the interest and right to be informed about current developments, status reports or important internal company announcements.
Transmission as a protected livestream
Fortunately, livestream service providers now offer digital and hybrid solutions for works and staff meetings. The advantages of a livestream are many.
- First and foremost, more staff can participate. The effort required to participate is minimised, and the option of joining online means that employees who would otherwise not be able to attend due to part-time work or even illness can also watch.
- For companies, an online event is usually much cheaper than a traditional meeting in person.
- In addition, you save on working time, because many employees connect directly from their home office or the office.
- A digital version is more sustainable, as fewer employees have to travel to the event and the company meeting can therefore easily be produced in a CO2-neutral manner.
- By recording the event, employees who are prevented from attending can also watch the meeting afterwards.
- With a livestream, the sense of community in the workplace can be sustainably strengthened despite meeting restrictions.
- Works councils can present their content more crisply with a focus on relevant internal issues.
Proxy server for permanent stable transmissions
But there are several challenges to consider. We therefore always work out an individual solution in close consultation with you and your in-house IT department. We usually stream staff meetings protected by a password. To avoid overloading your in-house infrastructure as a result of the mass access to the stream within the company network, we work with proxy servers. We therefore distribute the stream via two paths: once externally via the CDN of Stream1 to the employees in the home office. Employees who click in from the head office are supplied directly via transcoders and distribution servers in the building, i.e. completely internally. In this way, we ensure a permanently high quality of the live stream.
Live broadcasts of staff and staff meetings are the future. Both in hybrid and purely digital form, live streams have proven themselves in recent months. They are cheaper, save time and allow more staff to participate.
Staff meeting live from the Bavarian State Ministry
The Bavarian State Ministry for Family, Labour and Social Affairs also made use of these advantages. At a hybrid event, around 60 participants were directly on site at the ministry, while the rest of the staff followed the livestream in their home offices. In order not to place an unnecessary burden on the IT infrastructure of the ministry, there were two streams: one to external employees in the home office and one internally to the employees in the building. The latter ran via a proxy server that we installed on site together with the in-house IT.
