Livestream from the church – Stream1 broadcasts confirmation virtually

Confirmation is an important step towards adulthood for young people. They are accepted into the holy community of the Catholic faith through the gift of the Holy Spirit. Through this sacrament, the confirmands are to live their faith publicly from now on and profess it.

The Hallbergmoos-Goldach parish association shows how centuries-old traditions can be combined with modern technology. So that the confirmation does not have to be postponed by a year due to corona, the mass of the 49 confirmands will be broadcast online as a live stream. The parish association commissioned Stream1.eu as a competent partner.

Confirmation as an essential part of faith

Confirmation is an important part of the Catholic faith. Along with baptism and first communion, it is one of the so-called sacraments of initiation. But Corona makes no exceptions to God’s blessing. Church services did not take place, and accordingly no baptismal celebrations, first communions or confirmations were held.

In an adjoining room of the church, we set up a director’s station for ourselves

Password-protected livestream of the confirmation service

As an innovative idea, the parish association decided to use a livestream. Since not all relatives, friends and acquaintances could be present in the Sacred Heart Church, the confirmation was transmitted live on the internet. In the church, the confirmands were received into the holy community of faith by the priest and the auxiliary bishop, while the grandparents, aunts and uncles were able to follow the mass live on their laptops at home. We streamed the Confirmation on YouTube. The link to it was on the church website, protected with a password. Because the Confirmation should also be a private, intimate affair in the livestream.

We keep an overview with the remotely controllable PTZ cameras

Modern technology for appealing images

To create an appealing image, we set up three of our modern PTZ cameras in the Herz-Jesu church. This way we could stream from different perspectives and the viewers on the screen had the feeling of being there themselves. The priest and the bishop were each given a headset, and we set up a microphone in the room for other speeches and intercessions. The music was provided by a choir of about 10 singers.

No internet – no problem with the Mine Media M4 Mini

Our streaming equipment from Mine Media was also used again. When streaming from the church, the biggest problem is the lack of internet or just a bad internet line. With four modems and an Ethernet connection, the M4 Mini provides a stable Internet connection. Internet bonding bundles up to five connections into one. In addition, the bonding router was also responsible for the network in which the three PTZ cameras were controlled. We use the Livestream Encoder Q8 for security. This also sent out a livestream as a backup solution.

Combining tradition with modernity – Confirmation as a livestream

The Catholic Church can also go new, innovative ways. With the transmission of the confirmation in Hallbergmoos-Goldach, the parish association shows why tradition and modernity do not have to be mutually exclusive. With a strong partner at your side, many livestreams can be made possible in a stylish setting.
