The energy transition must succeed. The catastrophic flooding throughout Bavaria in recent weeks has clearly demonstrated the impact that climate change is already having. Wind power is a building block in the renewable energy mix. The construction of wind turbines is an efficient way to save many tonnes of CO2.
High citizen participation in Sauerlach and Hofolding thanks to livestream
We at Stream1 also have to deal with the topic of wind power time and again. This is because some municipalities such as Sauerlach and Hofolding focus on concrete citizen participation and stream information events on the topic of wind power live. Just as many viewers watched online as were present on site, and in some cases the proportion of virtual viewers was even higher. A complete success and a concrete approach to how citizens can be brought on board when decisions are made.
Simplification, objectification and acceleration through online consultations
Federal politicians have also recognised the signs of the times and added a paragraph on online participation in their latest draft legislation on the expansion of renewable energies. Specifically, the Federal Immission Control Act is to be amended and is due to come into force soon. Paragraph 10 deals with the so-called discussion meetings with citizens. The German government wants these to be allowed to be held online in future: ‘The experience gained so far during the pandemic has been overwhelmingly positive. In some cases, holding an online consultation has even simplified, objectified and accelerated the process. The online consultation has therefore proved its worth.’
Cost-efficient solutions for municipalities – enquire now
We fully support the future change and are in favour of online information events. This allows all citizens to participate and obtain meaningful, first-hand information about the imminent construction of a wind turbine, for example. We offer local authorities cost-efficient solutions for organising online events. For example, only cameras and a live control room need to be set up for a livestream; lighting and sound technology are already available for an on-site event.
